Still Fight It

I have zero musical talent…can't sing, can't play….none, zero, zip. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate, love, and respect all aspects of music. I am very much a believer that certain moments in life are defined by the song that was playing in the background.

J and I were sitting around tonight, after date night, listening to Ben Folds. J had me listen to a song that I have heard a hundred times before but TOTALLY misinterpreted until tonight. It's a song I have heard him sing before but never put two and two together. It's a song from a father to his son...

I saw the tears in his eyes as he sung it with meaning and it melted my heart. Another song to add to the soundtrack of our lives…(Ben Folds explains that the original video shot for this song sucked, so he and wife went out and shot the below video with their son….It made me cry.)

Ben Folds Five- Still Fighting It Lyrics

Good morning, son.
I am a bird
Wearing a brown polyester shirt
You want a coke?
Maybe some fries?
The roast beef combo's only $9.95
It's okay, you don't have to pay
I've got all the change

Everybody knows
It hurts to grow up
And everybody does
It's so weird to be back here
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
We're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
And you're so much like me
I'm sorry

Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things

Everybody knows
It sucks to grow up
And everybody does
It's so weird to be back here.
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
We're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
You'll try and try and one day you'll fly
Away from me

Good morning, son
I am a bird

It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things

Everybody knows
Tt hurts to grow up
And everybody does
It's so weird to be back here.
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
We're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
Oh, we're still fighting it, we're still fighting it

And you're so much like me
I'm sorry

Love you, Jack……Mom & Dad
